Let’s talk about primary and secondary emotions in dogs. Some researchers say a dog’s mental-emotional development is the equivalent of a 2-year-old human!!
That means they feel primary emotions like fear and happiness. But probably not secondary emotions like shame and guilt. Maybe thinking they feel sorry for what they did helps us forgive them faster 🐾❤️ 🐾
The reality is your dog might be acting scared because it’s clear you aren’t happy (and your happiness matters to them!). Or they could have something medical going on that needs to be checked out by your vet.
Whether they look guilty or not, try to remain calm…while you clean up the mess 🤦
